The relationship between Zenta Mauriņa and Mūrmuiža started with reading lectures at Mūrmuiža People’s University. Z.Mauriņa spent 10 years there, reading in total 130 lectures. The writer became very fond of the local community and the surroundings and she was eager to get on the train and in a horse carriage to meet her audience. To be true, it has to be mentioned that she was actually lifted onto the train and into the carriage because she was disabled and bound to a wheelchair. Who will challenge the fact that Zenta Mauriņa loved to be carried in arms? And she experienced it in Mūrmuiža both directly and figuratively. She received attention, respect, piety and love.
Writings of Z. Mauriņa have been translated into many languages of the world – Swedish, German, Japanese, Italian, Russian, etc. In 2009 a translation of her essays in Hungarian was published in a form of bilingual display. Items of personal use of Zenta Mauriņa, which have remained in Latvia, are scarce therefore it is very interesting to visit the writer’s memorial room in Mūrmuiža.
